U16A progress to next round of National Cup

Stamford School U16A hockey team progress to the third round of the National Cup having travelled to the Leys in Cambridge on Tuesday 12th February to compete in the second round of the National Cup.  With high expectations after their victory over Bromsgrove the previous weekend, Stamford was determined to claim another win with Henson opening the scoring in the first 10 minutes. The Leys then put the pressure back on the Stamford boys scoring 2 goals towards the end of the first half, taking the lead into half time.A big half time team talk from coach White spurred Stamford to get an equaliser early in the second half. With Mayhew and Calnan running the midfield, Stamford put pressure on the Leys by gaining 7 penalty corners, which they, unfortunately, failed to convert. The game ended in a draw which meant that it was all down to penalty strokes. Stamford won on 4-2 strokes and progress to the third round of the National Cup..
