Stamford Junior School Admissions Journey

Assessment and Taster Day

All pupils wishing to enter Stamford Junior School are invited to attend a taster session in their current year group. Depending on their point of entry, each child will take part in an observation and/or assessment.

Key Stage 1:

Reception:

  • Children looking to join our Reception will spend a morning in our Preschool for a low-level observation. Children looking to join Reception mid-year will be invited to spend the day with the current Reception classes and complete some short phonics assessments.

Year 1 and Year 2:

  • Pupils will complete a short phonics assessment, a short writing assessment, and a maths assessment, and spend time in class in their current year group. They will also be asked to read to a teacher.

Key Stage 2:

  • Pupils will complete online, age-appropriate assessments in verbal and non-verbal reasoning as well as a short writing assessment. This assessment morning takes place in school (where possible), and following a successful assessment, they will be invited in for a taster day in their current year group.

Offer of a place

Key Stage 1:

  • For places in our Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 classes, we will collate teacher feedback and assessment results and decide whether to offer a place.
  • If we proceed to an offer, we will send a formal written letter along with acceptance paperwork.

Key stage 2:

  • Once your child has completed their assessments, we will invite them in for a taster day with us.
  • Following the taster day, we will collate teacher feedback and assessment results and decide whether to offer a place.
  • If we proceed to an offer, we will send a formal written letter along with acceptance paperwork.

To read more about life at Stamford Junior School, please take a look at our prospectus.

We continue to be amazed by the school and think it is truly fantastic. Our 4 boys are thoroughly enjoying school and simply can’t wait to come to school each day. We are aware that nothing in life is perfect, but your team, in our eyes, provides an amazing and caring place for our children to explore and feel supported in doing so.

Mr and Mrs Burton

We just wanted to say thank you to all of the staff for taking the time to show us around today. We thought the junior school was exceptional. The knowledge and understanding demonstrated by the SEN department was incredibly reassuring, and it felt as though our daughter’s needs were recognised immediately, with appropriate support and provision already being considered. This was especially comforting, as we’ve been trying to achieve this through her previous school for quite some time.
