"Welcome to St Michael’s! We are the Murphy family and we delight in providing a warm, home from home, family experience for children in Year 3 to Year 6."
St Michael's Boarding House Parent
We have a maximum of 20 boarders and therefore have a wonderful healthy staff to pupil ratio; we have six resident staff, as well as two non-resident Matrons and two highly loveable dogs. We offer kindness, structure and help to all of our boarders and allow them to be individuals.
St Michael’s is a safe and fun, home from home for children in Y3-6
You can also book occasional nights, or a Friday/Saturday package, subject to availability. All of our boarding houses are homely and welcoming for all students.
Set in the heart of the Junior School campus, St Michael’s is close to our sports fields, gardens and adventure play areas. It has a tree house, games room, pool table and table football, so there is something to suit every child’s interests. The Murphy’s family dog also resides at St Michael’s.
Boarding three, four or five nights a week can significantly reduce school commute times and gives you the option to have your child home at weekends when you have free time together.
We provide a traditional boarding experience for seven days a week during term time. Our Houses are full at the weekends, with students enjoying a social life rich in after-school clubs, sports, fun-packed trips at weekends and activities tailored to their age group. Boarders can enjoy after-school clubs, social activities and weekend trips, and make use of our leisure centre and pool, or take advantage of support and advice from tutors and Houseparents during homework time.
We offer occasional flexible boarding for day students, which can help with busy evenings, for one or two nights a week, or as your logistics require.
Students can stay on Friday nights before sports fixtures on a Saturday, or they may just want to enjoy the experience of boarding with friends for a change of scene.
At the weekend there are trips and activities to keep your child busy and happy; from walks to town on Saturday’s to spend pocket money, to days out to Rutland Water Aqua Park and Leicester Space Centre to name a few things.
Staff and other students, both older and younger, give each other help, support and encouragement without prompting. After school, boarders also receive increased academic support from teachers during homework sessions.
“Boarders are confident that there is always someone to go to, including an independent listener, if they have any concerns.” ISI Inspection 2017
