Success for Stamford High School Netball Teams

The Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 netball teams at Stamford High School have each become district chapions, qualifying for county tournaments. The U18, U16 and U14 netball teams have all recently qualified for the county tournaments starting in January. Each team has successfully passed through the district stages showing the preseason strength of the Schools' netball teams. Please scroll down for news from each of the teams. The U18 SquadThe team travelled to Carre’s Grammar School on Wednesday the 13th of Octobor to compete against Carre’s Grammar School, St George’s Academy & Kesteven and Grantham Girls School. The team have been training hard since the beginning of September to prepare for the tournament. They had a tough Cup game against Wrekin College, which was said to really test the team out. The netball term doesn’t officially start until January, so this has been a good opportunity for the team to prepare for the start.Throughout the tournament I Nasey, Team Captain, led from the front commanding the mid court and gaining key interceptions to keep the momentum in the favour of Stamford. The match also included some great shooting from M Poole, E Sanderson and Z Williams, which combined with the defensive pressure from Z Pollock and I Foster.Miss Mason, Team Coach, said: "After a tough opening match against St George’s Academy, ending in a draw, the team found their rhythm to produce some great netball. It was great to see the versatility of the team with many players performing in multiple positions across the court and displaying great teamwork. The team will continue to train hard over the coming weeks as they prepare for the County Netball Tournament on 17th November."Miss Mason has recently been named player of the match for her team - click here to read more. The U16 SquadThe U16's played St George’s Academy & Kesteven and Grantham Girls School, Priory Ruskin, Kesteven & Sleaford High School. It is early in the season, but the team show great promise heading towards the County tournament and season starting in January. There was excellent shooting from Captain, G Pritchard, and L Beaverstock, which helped the U15 Stamford side perform up in their age group against U16's in the districts. The first County tournament game starts on the 13th November.Team Captain, G Pritchard, said: "I think we all played well, and we worked together well as a team. We have been working hard in training on Wednesday mornings and it has helped to get us better and working together more."Team Coach, said: "It was a great afternoon of netball with Stamford dominating across the court. It was a great challenge for this team to play against opposition a year older than them and every player demonstrated great tenacity and skill throughout the afternoon. The County netball tournament will be another challenge for the team and I look forward to watching their progress over the coming weeks in preparation."The U14 Squad Cover photo:  U18 District Champion Squad.
