Students at SJS Take Part in Duathlon
Three students at Stamford Junior School have taken part in a duathlon. The students travelled to Mallory Park to participate in the British Triathlons initiative called 'Go Tri'. 'Go Tri' is held on the first Wednesday of each month and is aimed at providing a safe, enjoyable introduction to the world of triathlon.During the summer, the triathlon event consists of a 200m lake swim followed by a 7.5km bike and a 1.2km run around the race circuit. In the winter months the event turns into a duathlon, consisting of a 1.2km run followed by a 7.5km bike and a 1.2km run to finish. The students who competed in the duathlon were: Oscar, B (Year 6), Theo, K (Year 6) and Arthur, B (Year 3).Parent, Mr Brook said: "All the boys completed the race in great times, Theo flying around the run course and stating a strong case to his parents for a bike upgrade for Christmas (Christmas list 2021?). Oscar put in a tremendous bike leg and definitely won the award for best flying dismount (jumping off the bike whilst it’s still moving to be quickest in transition before the final run!) and Arthur who was the youngest competitor did incredibly well, coming in ahead of other junior and adult competitors, and smiling the entire race. The final result? Three smiling, slightly red faced SJS pupils who loved the event, swapping stories about what happened during the race and how they could improve different aspects for the next one!"
