Strength, Identity and the Power of Voice: Poorna Bell Closes Stamford Lecture Series for the academic year.

On Wednesday evening, Stamford School hosted the final Stamford Lecture of the academic year, welcoming award-winning journalist, author and mental health advocate Poorna Bell. The evening marked a powerful end to the series, with Poorna sharing her moving story of navigating grief, finding strength through competitive powerlifting, and promoting vital conversations around self-love, body confidence and diversity.

The event was uniquely student led by Sixth Formers who study both Sport and Politics, reflecting the interdisciplinary spirit of the Stamford community. Their thoughtful and insightful questions guided a dynamic and personal interview, touching on themes of resilience, identity and representation in both media and sport. This student led approach gave the evening a fresh and engaging tone, encouraging peers to think critically and empathetically about the topics discussed.

Following the lecture, a book signing gave attendees the chance to speak with Poorna directly, deepening the connection between her experiences and the lives of those in our school community.

We are incredibly proud of the students who contributed to this memorable evening and grateful to all who have supported the Stamford Lecture Series this academic year, these events which are open to the public and free, continue to enrich life at Stamford School, inspiring curiosity, conversation and personal growth.
