Stamford School Equestrian Team Shines at National Championships at Hickstead

Over the weekend, eight Stamford School students made the long journey to Hickstead for the National Schools Equestrian Championships, having qualified at Regionals earlier in the academic year. With huge support from an amazing team of parents and ponies, most of the riders camped and stabled on site for three days of tough competition. Equestrian sport is a true lifestyle, with early mornings, late nights, and endless dedication, and our students showed just how committed they are.

Flora, Ava, Dot, Izzy, Imogen, Georgia, Gigi and Sophia represented Stamford School with pride, turning out beautifully in their Stamford numnahs and caring for their horses with exceptional attention. The standard at Championships was incredibly high, with each class attracting riders who had already won at regional level, and our students rose to the occasion.

There were fantastic results throughout the weekend: a fourth place team finish in the 100 to 105 centimetre Open Eventer Challenge for Imogen, Izzy, Flora and Ava; eighth in the same team for 100 to 105 centimetre Show Jumping; Gigi placed eighth individually in the 70 to 75 centimetre; Dot took seventh in the 90 to 95 centimetre; and Imogen produced a stunning round in the 110 centimetre Open to finish second.

Thank you to Miss Halliday for her support throughout, to Anna Cheney for expert team management, and to all the parents for making this possible. A special thank you also to Mr Sidwell for joining us and showing his support for Stamford equestrian. The girls were a credit to the school throughout, both in and out of the saddle.
