Stamford School’s First XV delivered a superb performance in a hard-fought, muddy encounter against Uppingham, securing a 10–0 victory to retain the Robert Wills Memorial Cup in what was the final First XV match for our Year 13 players.
Stamford controlled the contest with clarity and intent, adapting well to heavy conditions and managing territory with discipline. The forward pack set the tone early, dominating collisions and maintaining composure at the breakdown, while the backs used the limited space intelligently, taking opportunities when they appeared.
The match remained tight until the closing stages, when Stamford showed real resilience and accuracy. A decisive last-minute try sealed the win and reflected the side’s ability to stay organised under pressure and execute at key moments.
The result also carried added significance for several Year 13 students playing their final match for the school, including those who have represented Stamford rugby throughout their entire journey. Their leadership, commitment and consistency were evident across the pitch and set the standard for the younger players coming through.
It was a complete squad performance that underlined the strength and depth of the programme. The group looked confident, connected and tactically assured despite the challenging conditions.
A fantastic achievement and a fitting finale for our senior players. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff on a fully deserved victory and the successful defence of the Robert Wills Memorial Cup.
