Stamford become National Fives Champions

Students from Stamford School have become the Under 14s National Fives Doubles Champions after competing at the RFA National Schools Open Fives Tournaments in August. This marks the first time the Schools have won the tournament in the three years since Stamford began the sport.14 students from Years 8 and 9 entered from Stamford in the annual competition of over 100 players from 12 schools across the country, this year hels at Alleyn's School, South London.In the Under 14 Doubles Chase B and Cameron D took Gold, becoming National Champions. Oliver C and Teddy C took the plate in Bronze position.In the Under 14 Singles, Chase B took Silver position, with Oliver C achieving the Second Plate.Mr A Smith, Head of Classics at Stamford and Fives Coach, said: "The boys from Year 9, and two playing up from Year 8, played in the U14 Open over three days. They contended with the unfamiliar courts and ball, playing against boys from a range of other schools from across the UK."I am very proud of all the Stamford players, who showed great tenacity, resilience and skill throughout, approaching each game with great determination, camaraderie and sportsmanship. A special mention must go to Chase Burgess who reached the singles final and also Cameron Drutman who reached the doubles finals with Chase.
