D-Day Re-enactments over the weekend
Sixth Form pupils from the Stamford School have 're-run' the first one and a half days of D-Day under the watchful eye of Major General (Retd) John Drewienkiewicz, an Old Stamfordian. The students competed against one another on simulated D-Day board games. It involved the pupils either defending the Normandy beaches or trying to land on the beaches. On the Saturday evening the pupils watched the film ‘The Longest Day’ accompanied by a commentary provided by General DZ that helped to support the players’ understanding of the key events. After six hours of game play general DZ reviewed progress across all of the beaches to reveal that the Axis forces had the advantage at the point the game was stopped. Thanks go to John Drewienkiewicz for giving up his time to return to school and support the event.[gallery size="large" columns="2" ids="https://www.stamfordschools.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/D-Day-Players-1-scaled.jpg|,https://www.stamfordschools.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/D_Day-Tables-at-Start-scaled.jpg|"]For more news from our Alumni community, please click
