Burghley Park Cricket Club and Stamford School are pleased to announce a new partnership focused on growing cricket across Stamford and the surrounding area, with a particular emphasis on community outreach and widening access to specialist coaching.
The collaboration brings together two well-established local institutions with a shared ambition to increase participation in the game, support young players’ development, and create clearer pathways between school and club cricket. Central to the partnership is a programme of outreach activity in local primary schools, with cricket sessions planned during the summer term. By taking the game directly into schools, the partnership aims to introduce more children to cricket, including those who may not previously have had the opportunity to play, helping to build skills, confidence, and long-term engagement with the sport.
Alongside this outreach work, the partnership will provide enhanced development opportunities for Burghley Park Cricket Club’s junior players. Stamford School’s professional coaching staff will deliver a series of specialist masterclass sessions, giving young cricketers access to high-level technical coaching, performance insight, and structured skill development. This joined-up approach is designed to raise standards in junior cricket locally and support players as they progress through both school and club environments.
The agreement also includes shared use of facilities, with Stamford School making use of Burghley Park’s cricket ground during the school week when it is not required by the club.
Stuart Biggs, Chairman of Burghley Park Cricket Club, said the partnership reflects a wider commitment to the community. He noted that strengthening links between schools, clubs, and young people is essential for the long-term health of the game and highlighted the importance of introducing cricket to children at primary school age.
Joshua Weller, Head of Cricket at Stamford School, said the partnership provides a valuable platform to extend the school’s expertise beyond its own pupils. He added that working with Burghley Park creates meaningful opportunities to support the wider cricket community while helping to develop players at every stage.
Both organisations see the partnership as the start of a longer-term relationship, with potential to expand into shared events, festivals, coaching development, and further outreach initiatives. More information on upcoming school sessions and junior coaching opportunities will be shared by both organisations in the coming weeks.
