A Weekend of Sport at Stamford

This weekend, we hosted two exciting sporting events with hockey sticks clashing on the astro, and rugby balls soaring through the air.

On Friday, our Wothorpe sports centre buzzed with excitement as we proudly hosted the Under 11s IAPS hockey tournament. This event brought together some of the finest young talents from 14 schools across England. The atmosphere was a blend of fierce competitiveness and heart-warming camaraderie, featuring a challenging group stage, nail-biting semi-finals, and an electrifying final to determine the tournament champion. Notably, one thrilling match was decided by penalty flicks.

Ultimately, the victors of the tournament were Greshams Prep, who emerged victorious after beating Witham Hall in the final. Meanwhile, Stamford Junior School secured a joint third-place finish alongside St Peters School.

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Stamford Rugby Club to our St Paul's site. Here, we witnessed the clash of the Stamford Rugby Club Minis against Stamford Junior School. Children ranging in age from Year 3 to the more experienced Year 6 displayed their rugby prowess on the field. It was great to witness both girls and boys playing in these thrilling rugby encounters, with a remarkable turnout of dedicated coaches and supportive parents.

The event featured a dynamic mix of touch and contact rugby, with many of the children experiencing their first taste of competitive matches, making it a memorable and action-packed morning for all involved.

This weekend of sport showcased the epitome of sportsmanship and competition. The Under 11s IAPS hockey tournament united schools from all over England, with Greshams Prep emerging as the victors. Whereas on the following day, Stamford Rugby Club Minis clashed with Stamford Junior School, fostering excitement, and unity on the rugby field.
