Above all, I remember it all being great fun - apart from swimming lessons, as the pool was absolutely freezing, but I've heard it's heated and inside now.”

Megan Stoker (OS 16)

PhD student/ Rower

Megan is a PhD student and Research Assistant at University of Oxford, working on a project which is developing a novel anti-cancer drug. Megan is also a keen rower, racing in the Boat Race.

Time at Stamford:
“At school I always enjoyed the huge variety of subjects, but for me sciences were always my favourite. Although I was naturally interested in biology, I found the teacher who made a lasting impact was Mr Porteus, who made the step up to A level biology not only fun, but memorable too. Thoroughly enjoying biology at school is fundamentally what made me choose to pursue the subject at university. I had many memorable experiences at the schools, between school trips and speech days, to celebrate the hard work we put in; however, my most memorable achievement would be regional and national wins in rowing. The schools hugely supported my sporting endeavours and ultimately led to a fruitful sporting (and academic) career after leaving.”

Oliver Roberts (OS 00)

Illustrator

Oliver is the founder of Oskar Illustrations. Illustrations and animation agency.

Time at Stamford:
“I studied German, Geography and Biology having joined SES when I was 18. The latter, taught by Mr Porteus, probably pipped the posts as my favourite subject. He really brought all as aspects of it to life and I particularly appreciated his dry wit. I later went on to read Anatomical Sciences at University. My most memorable experience was playing for the 1st XV against touring Townsville from Australia. The referee said it was the highest quality game he’d ever officiated, and I was awarded man of the match.”

Celine Bangay (OS 13)

Private Chef and Founder of Nourished by Celine

Celine founded her own company called Nourished by Celine, where she works as an international menu consultant, private chef and caterer. As of 2024, Celine has been travelling in the Bahamas for three months, as a yacht chef on a Catamaran. She continues to nourish by hosting her popular supper clubs across the world.

Time at Stamford
Celine studied Home Economics, PE, and Philosophy and Ethics during her A Levels. Celine learnt to cope positively with dyslexia while at Stamford. “It may be a cliche, but my family really is the grounding for all my successes. They taught me how to get up when I got knocked down and supported me through channeling my passion for food into the job. And then I had great support from my teachers. I learnt not to give up, even when it seemed like the only option.”

Declan Spaine (OS 15)
