Success for Stamford at Cross Country

The cross country teams from all three schools have achieved impressive results across the country this term.  With the boys and girls competing in various national competitions and with the Juniors at the National Prep Schools Championships, Stamford is a force to be reckoned with.Teams from Stamford School are to be congratulated on their outstanding cross country results at the EMISCCL finals held at Burghley Park last Saturday. The boys in Years 9/10 were successful in winning the overall competition, while the boys in the Years 7/ 8 finished in second place overall. There were standout performances from Tom and Sam, who finished in first and second place respectively in the individual competition in the Years 9/ 10 category. Both runners recently represented Lincolnshire in the National Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds and did very well in challenging conditions. In addition, there were also top ten finishes in the Years 7/8 overall competition for Henry, Dylan and Sam and in Years 9/10, for Sam, James and Elliot.Mr J Mitchell, Head of athletics and cross country at Stamford, commented, ‘It was great to see the boys hard work pay off over the season, with the number of races cut short due to poor weather, each race was even more important. Both Sam and Tom have trained and raced incredibly hard over the season and are rightly deserving of their 1st and 2nd place. However, everyone else in the team still counts and they were backed up superbly by Sam G-K, Elliot, James, Ben, Hugo, William, Oliver, Tom and William. Clearly the future of cross country is in great hands at Stamford.’Two teams - Years 9/10 and Years 7/8 - from Stamford High School, who recently competed in the Fenland League Relays 2019, finished in first and second place respectively. Amy, Sophie, Leonie and Imogen in the winning Years 9/10 team are to be congratulated on their performance and the Years 7/8 team made up of Isabel, Annie May, Maeve, Isla, and Millie should be very proud of their second place. The Stamford Junior School U11A girls and boys cross-country also put in sterling performances at the 27th National Prep Schools Cross Country Championships held at Malvern College in Worcestershire recently. Despite challenging racing conditions – a gruelling course and in 45mph winds – the U11 girls’ team finished in 19th position while the U11 boys’ team came in 26th place out of 46 and 47 national teams respectively.
