On 25th January 2025, Year 8 students Ilia and Evie from Stamford School captivated the audience at the Chinese Community in Peterborough and Chinese Women in Peterborough’s Chinese New Year celebration, coinciding with Burns Night.
The students sung Auld Lang Syne, followed by Tomorrow Will Be Better with Chinese Women in Peterborough, spreading messages of unity, hope, and peace. Their performances added a special touch to the celebration, highlighting the importance of cultural connections.
Ilia’s role was further recognised when she was interviewed by ITV News, her appearance broadcast nationally, showcasing the vibrant event in Peterborough. Stamford School’s involvement in this celebration emphasised the school’s commitment to community engagement and cultural understanding.
The Chinese Community in Peterborough, hosts of the event, were also celebrated for their outstanding contribution to the community, having received the King's Award for Voluntary Service in 2024. This prestigious award, equivalent to an MBE, is granted for life. Stamford School students were proud to be part of this momentous occasion.
The event attracted a wide range of guests, including members of the Chinese community, participants from the Tai Chi for Community Wellbeing project, and representatives from local authorities, the NHS, police, and various faith and community organisations. Special attendees included Chinese boarding students from Stamford School, who found a sense of belonging at the celebration.
