Drama

Co-Curricular

On this page

Drama is a central part of our co-curricular provision, with our school productions being a notable jewel in our calendar

We have an enviable reputation for excellence with productions being much more than your average 'school play'. We encourage our students to strive for professional standards in all areas.

Whether your child is a performer, director, choreographer, designer or technician, we encourage creativity and collaboration in all areas. We offer a range of performance opportunities for all levels of ability, with informal and formal shows along with house drama and dance competitions.

We believe that all performance is valuable, whether it be in the large-scale senior musical or a one-off presentation of curriculum work.
Specialist Teaching Facilities

At Stamford we have two exclusive-use specialist teaching and performance venues – The Llowarch Performing Arts Centre and The Birkbeck Studio.

Speech and Drama

Stamford has a successful Speech and Drama programme, following the LAMDA syllabus.

Students from Years 3-13 are taught by specialist teachers and take graded examinations in Drama and Communication, many achieving distinctions for their work.

Production Crew Club

Students who attend can take charge of these areas in our busy programme of productions.

There is a weekly Production Crew Club for Years 10-13, run by our two professional Drama Technicians, exploring technical and design areas of the theatre.

Broadway

A whistle stop tour of wonder and excitment

We also offer a triennial trip to New York for students in Years 11-13, where we engage in workshops, tours and visit Broadway, alongside a number of exciting cultural sights.

Opportunities For All

At Stamford School we offer all students numerous performance opportunities throughout the year for all year groups.

Students have the opportunity to participate as a performer, or working behind the scenes, on events for audiences ranging from 30 to 400 in size.

Drama Showcase

An opportunity for students to dance and choreograph performances around traditional fairy tales.

Each year we stage a Dance Showcase, based around traditional fairy tales and stories, giving students the opportunity to dance and choreograph in a range of styles.

Recent showcases include The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Peter Pan.

Across Our Schools

At the Junior School, the Drama and Music departments work collaboratively to stage the spectacular end-of-Year-6 Spotlight musical production.

Recent shows include The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone and Pantastic!

Student Showcase

Biennially we stage a submission showcase, where students are able to develop work with their peers around a given theme or style and then have the opportunity to present these performances to a public audience.

Most recent showcases have been focused on Shakespeare and the works of Frantic Assembly.
