Girls at Stamford High School achieved excellent results – 56.7% of all exams were passed at grades 9-7, 2% higher than last year. Meanwhile, boys at Stamford School passed 10% of all grades at the highest level, grade 9, outperforming all predictions. Across the cohort as a whole, results for grades 9-7 matched or exceeded predictions.25% of the boys, and 31% of the girls, passed at least five exams at the highest 9-7 grades.Vicky Buckman, Head of Stamford High School, said: “These are absolutely brilliant results, and our students have proved that they are developing all the skills that they need as a foundation for A Levels and beyond. Students receiving today’s GCSE results will enter the Schools’ co-educational Sixth Form in September.Will Phelan, Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, said: “All our girls and boys can be rightly proud of their efforts at GCSE. Oliver Fraser, who achieved nine GCSEs at the top grades of 9 and 8, is aiming to study Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths at A Level next year. Oliver is also an accomplished debater, who has not only performed well in House and Inter-School debates whilst studying for his exams, but was also called in to take part in a Sixth Form debate, in front of an audience of senior pupils. Oliver will continue with his debating as he moves on to the Sixth Form at Stamford.
George Bingham kept busy before results day completing his Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award, only returning from his expedition on Monday of results week. “I’m really pleased about Chemistry, and 9s for Drama and English Language were two good surprises!”, said George, who has also represented the school in cricket, and as part of the squash 1
st team. George, who achieved 10 GCSEs at grades 9-7, is looking forward to Maths, Biology and History at A Level, and is also planning to complete an EPQ on a history-based topic.
Stamford High School student, Lottie Pike, was thrilled with her recent GCSE results. Lottie, who is an all-round scholar, passed 11 out of 12 GCSEs at grades 9-7. Lottie said: “I worked as hard as I could and am so happy to have achieved these results and am very relieved.” Lottie is a keen saxophonist, which she only began playing three years ago, and is an active member of the School’s orchestra and band. She moves on to the Sixth Form as a music scholar.Caitlin Brown was absolutely delighted with her achievements, gaining 11 GCSEs at grades 9-7. Caitlin said: “I did not expect these grades at all – I am so, so happy and am looking forward to Sixth Form.” Caitlin, who joined the Schools in the nursery, has thrown herself into school life, and loves art, photography and tap dance.Grace Keeling joined the Schools in Year 9 and is overjoyed with her 10 GCSEs (9-7). Grace is planning on taking A Level Spanish and Psychology, and is reviewing her options now her results are confirmed. Grace said: “I did loads of revision and I am absolutely over the moon. My results are 100% better than I expected!” Grace enjoys reading and devours novels in her spare time. She is also a keen tennis player and long-distance runner, and will be taking part in a 10 mile charity run in the near future.Eloise Quetglas-Peach, who has been at the Stamford Endowed Schools since the nursery, was overwhelmed to achieve 11 GCSEs at grades 9 and 8. Eloise said: “I cried with joy. I know I worked hard and it has paid off. I’m over the moon!” Eloise will go on to study A Levels in English Literature, History and French, and AS Level Spanish. Eloise’s immersion in all aspects of student life will continue into Sixth Form – an active drama student, having recently played the part of a ‘Dynamite’ in the School’s production of Hairspray, Eloise is soon competing in Cardiff with the 1
st XI hockey team.
Harry Laventure, whose results went “as well as I hoped, and better than I expected”, has combined his GCSE studies with a packed programme of other activities, which have included playing rugby for the School, reaching the national quarter finals with the hockey team, and performing as Valentine in last year’s production of Twelfth Night. He returned from Stamford’s rugby tour of New Zealand in time to collect 11 GCSEs at grades 9 and 8, and will start his studies in A Level Maths, Politics and English Literature, together with an EPQ, next month.
Talvin Gill passed 11 GCSEs at grades 9-7, and was particularly pleased to pass all three sciences at grade 9. His focus in Sixth Form, though, will be on Maths, Further Maths, History and Economics, with a view to reading maths at university in the future. Talvin has been part of the team of students running help clinics during his GCSE study, helping year 7 pupils with homework and reading, and with any questions that they have.
