Bushcraft Canoe Trip: A Half Term Adventure in Norfolk

Sixteen students from Years 7 to 9 spent four days in Norfolk over half term on an unforgettable Bushcraft Canoe trip. With no phones or electronics allowed, it was a proper digital detox and a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

We arrived at the woods on Tuesday evening and set up the camp that would be our home for the next few days. After some campfire songs and stories, the students headed to bed, ready for what lay ahead. The next morning started with collecting wood and lighting a fire to cook breakfast. After a rainy night, this proved tricky, but the students persevered.

Once breakfast was done, we were driven upriver to start the canoeing part of the trip. Paddling through the beautiful countryside, the students took on the challenge brilliantly. After another evening around the fire, they settled into camp tired but happy.

On day three, we were back in the canoes and made great progress down the river, with much less zigzagging than the day before. We reached Wroxham in good time, then returned to camp where the students built their own shelters to sleep in. Everyone chose to stay in them, and the Canoeman staff were really impressed.

On the final day, after packing up, the group had a go at archery and took on the one match fire lighting challenge. The week ended with a brilliant review and lots of proud, smoky, and happy students heading home.
