BoxClever workshop continues from home

Year 11 English students at Stamford School have participated in an online workshop of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', supporting their GCSE revision. The annual performance and workshop, hosted by the BoxClever Theatre company, was moved online this year as students study from home.Their adaptation of the performance focused on the key moments in the play, with plenty of physical theatre, music and informal narration. This was followed by a live online workshop, led by the actors playing Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macduff, involving physical exercises before exploring key quotes and scenes, finishing with an interactive vote about who was 'most responsible for the murders'- Macbeth, Lady Macbeth or the witches.BoxClever workshop 2021Head of English, Mrs. Scotcher said both play and workshop were “a great opportunity for our Year 11 students to see a stripped back adaptation of “Macbeth” and to meet and discuss the performance with the cast. As they said in this version, “the boy done bad”, and our students really got the chance to explore the inner workings of Shakespeare’s complex villain”.Discussing the virtual workshop, Year 11 student, Bradley Cooper said: “Considering the workshop was online, the actors did really well to get us engaged, particularly using the workshop chat function.”We look forward to welcoming BoxClever to Stamford again in person next year.To read more news from Stamford School, please click here.why stamford banner
