Academic Scholarships

Our Scholarship provision is designed to recognise students with outstanding talents and skills in a variety of fields, and to help develop those talents and skills during their time at the school.

Stamford Scholars benefit enormously from the additional opportunities and enrichment programmes offered to them. Scholarships are awarded on merit and do not carry a fee remission or financial award. All scholarships are kept under review and are regularly reassessed.

For academic year 2024-25, students who have been awarded academic scholarships in previous years will form the initial cohort of academic scholars. These students will remain academic scholars for the duration of their time at Stamford, unless they opt out of the programme.

From Year 7 in September 2025 onwards, and for new joiners in other year groups from September 2024 onwards, students will be invited to apply for an academic scholarship if they demonstrate the qualities of an academic scholar.

Academic scholars are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence and act as role models for academic ambition within the Stamford community.

Our scholars:

  • Show academic ambition
  • Find learning fun and enjoy thinking
  • Ask thoughtful questions
  • Always want to know more
  • Put effort into all their work
  • Learn from their mistakes
  • Are confident communicators
  • Reflect on their academic progress
  • Read for pleasure

In addition, academic scholars are also expected to:

  • Model the school’s expectations of behaviour
  • Attend all lunchtime Scholars’ meetings and other events
  • Attend Stamford Lectures when possible
  • Seek opportunities to try extension activities
  • Meet deadlines for all assignments

The academic scholarship programme takes place on several levels:

  • During lessons.
  • Lunchtime academic scholars’ sessions run by the academic scholars leads.
  • After-school Stamford Lecture attendance.
  • Out-of-school workshops, trips and visits.

During lessons, all teaching staff have a responsibility to offer extension opportunities. These should not necessarily be limited to academic scholars, and should provide students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and form links between related ideas.

The plans for the lunchtime academic scholars’ sessions will be published termly by the academic scholars leads. The overview for out-of-school workshops, trips and visits for academic year 2024-25 is below.
