Stamford School’s Under 18 Hockey Team have qualified for the Tier 4 regional finals, following the Tier 4 preliminary round at Redbridge at the end of January. The team, comprised of 13 sixth form students, won two of their three matches, qualifying them for the next stage.Hamish Bell, Year 13, reports: “After a long journey, our team started off strong in our first match against Wisbech Grammar School. Archie Hubbard, new addition to the team, stepped up really well. Our defence was strong, but we unfortunately slipped to a 4-0 loss.“Back to back games with only one substitute was beginning to take its toll in our second match, against Aldenham. Quick Aldenham attacks placed lots of strain on defence, but Tom Watson weathered every player that came his way. Middle field played their part well, with Ryan McGreevy using his skill to beat many defenders. Archie Hubbard scored in the final minute of the game for a 1-0 win for Stamford.“Finally, after an hour off the pitch standing in the cold, some inspiring words from Coach Kirkpatrick and the prospect of getting into the next round helped us all step up. Against Gresham’s School, Archie Hubbard scored yet another goal, and Stamford’s defence stayed strong to send us to the regionals on March 5th.”
