On Wednesday 14th November the Stamford High School U13 A hockey team travelled to Lincoln to compete for and defend their County Championship crown. The format was simple and the strategy clear: win every game to secure a sure spot of progressing to the regional rounds of the National Schools Competition. The Stamford team had four schools to outwit and the girls set to task, winning their first game against Bourne Grammar 6-0. P Phelan and E Stones secured two goals each with M Hindmarch and C Packer scoring one each cementing a convincing and hearty score. The second match saw Stamford High School start with a solid and confident performance, but Lincoln Minster were equally as quick and strong from the outset. The Stamford team dug deep, changed tactics and began to dominate once again with a hat trick from C Dean and two follow up goals form C Packer and M Hindmarch. The next match began to test fitness levels with a few strong challenges from St Hughes, but again the resilience from Stamford shone through and the team left the pitch relieved with another victory (3-0: E Stones 2; P Phelan 1). The final opponents, William Farr withdrew from the match, and so Stamford were crowned County Champions again. The team are looking forward to the Regionals at Bedford Hockey Centre on Thursday 29th November.
