Tremendous GCSE Success at Stamford Endowed Schools

Students at the Stamford Endowed Schools are celebrating their GCSE results today, Thursday 25 August, having achieved 57% of every grade classified at the very highest grades of 9, 8 or 7 and nearly nine out of ten of all grades being classified as 9 to 5.

At Stamford High School 62% of grades were at 9, 8 and 7 with Stamford School achieving 53% at the same grades. Across the two schools, 194 students completed assessments for 1,802 individual qualifications in 29 different subjects. Over a third of the cohort achieved at least five, 9s and 8s or higher, with 34 students achieving nine or more grade 8/9s.

Vicky Buckman, Head of Stamford High School, commented; “We are very proud of our Stamford High School students who have had not had the easiest path to GCSEs over the last two years.  However, our students have shown tremendous tenacity and determination in achieving excellent results. We look forward to welcoming them all back next week as they start the next exciting phase of their education!”

Nick Davies, Interim Head of Stamford School, added; “Many congratulations to all those students receiving their GCSE results today. The Stamford School students should be really pleased with their results, coming after two years of very significant work.  Preparing for GCSE examinations is far from straightforward, given the complexity of the topics and the number of subjects each student undertakes. But for this year’s cohort, the challenge has undoubtedly been magnified, given the national disruption in education over the last two years. The students, and the staff who have worked so tirelessly to support them, should be very proud with today’s news.”

Principal Will Phelan said: “It has certainly been a difficult time for all school students and none more so than those undertaking public examinations, having been learning online for a term of the course and disruption to the normal way of things when in school. These results are a testament to our Stamfordians’ determination, resilience and endeavour and this will stand them in strong stead for the final stage in their schooling at Sixth Form.

“I would also pay testament to all those in school who have supported these students either directly or indirectly over the last two years. Every member of our team from teaching, teaching support and operations have ensured that our students have had the very best of experiences and support. I congratulate every one of our Stamfordians who have worked so hard and, with lockdown learning and subsequent challenges of Covid, undoubtedly our parents who have supported them so very well indeed.”
