Last Tuesday, Stamford School launched its 2023/2024 Lecture Series with a distinguished guest, Henry Dimbleby MBE. As the co-founder of the Sustainable Restaurants Association, the Chefs in Schools charity, and the former CEO and co-founder of Leon Restaurants, Henry brought a wealth of expertise and experience to the lecture.
The evening commenced with an enlightening interview led by our Geography Prefects, affording students a unique opportunity to engage with a leading authority in the field. One of the standout moments of the evening was the culinary experience orchestrated by our catering partner, Holroyd Howe. This session showcased their pioneering carbon emissions measurement system per meal, a significant stride towards a more sustainable future. Each meal was accompanied by an informative label detailing the carbon footprint of its production.
Henry's lecture delved into an array of thought-provoking topics, encompassing food culture, sustainability, agricultural land use, and food policy in England. He also underscored the admirable objectives of The Sustainable Restaurant Association, an organization dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in the food industry. The lecture culminated in an engaging Q&A panel, providing the audience with a platform for insightful discussions.
As the evening came to a close, attendees had the privilege of obtaining a signed copy of Henry's latest work, "Ravenous." This compelling book explores the intricate connection between personal and planetary well-being and is essential reading for anyone passionate about sustainable living.
We eagerly anticipate the next instalment of the Stamford Lecture series, featuring the esteemed Dr. Dame Claire Bertschinger, DBE. Mark your calendars for Thursday, January 25, 2024, as she shares her inspiring journey as a field nurse in Mekele, northern Ethiopia, and her pivotal role in inspiring Band Aid and Live Aid. More information about tickets will be available closer to the date.
