Students celebrate their A Level results

A quarter of all A Levels were passed at the top grades of A*A. Four out of five of all exams were passed at A*-C, in line with last year’s results.Students achieved exceptional results in the EPQ, or Extended Project Qualification, which requires students to work independently to complete a detailed project, and is highly valued by employers and universities. Overall, 72% of EPQs at Stamford were passed at A* or A grade.Will Phelan, Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, said: “Our students have worked extremely hard and I am absolutely delighted for them as they embark on the next stage of their lives. Their dedication, their curiosity about the world, and their ability to work independently, have been especially apparent in their outstanding EPQ grades. Our students are learning to think for themselves, to work hard, and to pursue the things that interest them – the key life skills which they will carry with them as they move on to life after Stamford.”“Well done to all our students!”Twins Thomas and Georgie Richardson, who have been at the Stamford Endowed Schools since Year One, are delighted with their results – three A* and two As and a B respectively. Thomas, who holds an Academic Scholarship at Stamford, will read Economics at Bristol, and Georgie, who holds an Art Scholarship, goes on to read Architecture at Newcastle.  The twins said: ”We are overwhelmed with our grades and our offers. We received the news about our offers first thing this morning, but we didn’t know what our grades were until afterwards! We’re both really, really happy.”Golfing twins Matilde and Hugo Kedzlie are both heading to the USA, after securing golfing scholarships to the University of Delaware and Samford University, Alabama, respectively. “We’re really happy with our results, which were better than expected,” the twins said. “Getting our A Level results wasn’t as stressful as GCSEs; we were lucky to already have our offers in the US.” Matilde and Hugo are looking forward to furthering their education whilst continuing to develop their golfing careers.Deputy Head girl and 1^st XI Hockey team member, Sasha Pollock, was thrilled with her offer to study Veterinary Science at Nottingham University. She said: “I am so delighted with my offer and just so happy to be going to study Veterinary Science.”Stamford School’s Head Boy and Cadet Company Major, Sam Brunswick, has secured his place at Swansea University with A* grades in Maths, Physics and his EPQ, and A grades in Russian and AS Further Maths. Sam, who has been awarded an Army bursary, will complete his Masters in Aerospace Engineering and a year-long placement in industry before he enters Sandhurst.Sam said: “My grades meant I had lots of options open to me, but I think Swansea will be much more of an adventure – I'm really looking forward to it!”Maddy Baillie has opted to turn down her place at university in favour of an apprenticeship in journalism.Maddy, who achieved good A Levels in Design & Technology, Philosophy and English, will join the Stamford Mercury for the 18-month scheme, and complete a NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) qualification during her time with the paper.“I didn’t really want to go to university, it just wasn’t the right thing for me,” said Maddy, who worked hard to achieve her A Levels, and whose apprenticeship will provide an excellent launch pad for a career in journalism.More and more students at Stamford are considering the wider options available after school, including apprenticeships and employer-sponsored schemes, as well as the more traditional university pathways.Ben Penlington will combine his Accountancy degree at Nottingham with a place on Price Waterhouse Cooper’s Flying Start scheme. The highly competitive programme offers sponsorship through university and paid work placements with PWC, and the vast majority of those sponsored through the programme secure employment with PWC when they graduate.  “It’s a quick launch into business,” said Ben. “I’m very happy!”Ben is the third in his family to study at Stamford, and today marks the end of eighteen years of morning drop offs for Ben’s delighted parents.Charlie Kidd, Academic Scholar, Deputy Head Boy and a member of the 1^st XV Rugby team, has confirmed his place to read Maths at Somerville College, Oxford. Charlie, who has been at Stamford since Year 1, achieved four A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.  “I worked very hard, and I’m very satisfied with my results,” said Charlie. “It’s a very good feeling!”Stamford School’s Deputy Head Boy, Jonty Mason has confirmed his place at Jesus College, Cambridge to read Chemistry. Jonty, who holds an Academic and Art Scholarship at Stamford, achieved three A* grades in Maths, Chemistry and Physics and a B in Further Maths.   Jonty said: “I am just so excited and thrilled.
