Students Buzzing at the Foreign Language Spelling Bee

On Thursday 19th April, Stamford School hosted the Regional Finals of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee Competition (East Midlands). The competition is for students in Year Seven to display their vocabulary, spelling and memory skills in a foreign language (French, German or Spanish).At the regional level, the competitors must learn 50 words in their chosen language; they are then tested on these words. The students are also required to translate an assortment of English words into their language of choice and then spell the translated word with the aim of covering as many words correctly as possible in just a minute.Representing Stamford were (left to right in the picture): Thomas (Spanish), Luke (language ambassador and assistant), Reuben (Spanish) and Jake (French). Reuben finished 1st in the Spanish competition and will now represent the School at the National Finals in Cambridge at the end of June.Mrs Pike the Head of Spanish at Stamford School commented, “I would like to congratulate all those who took part in the competition. There was a high level of translation and language skills on display so all the students should be proud of their achievements.”
