Stamford's Combined Cadet Force come together for field day

Almost two hundred students from the Stamford Endowed School’s Combined Cadet Force have come together for a field day, held in a private area of Burghley Park.Years 10 and 11 students took part in a multitude of activities run by their peers in Years 12 and 13, who were praised for their encouragement and ability to enthuse the younger cadets.Six teams completed six stands of activities in a competition, which was won by one of the RAF groups. The stands included Army command tasks, a STEM activity run by the Royal Anglian Regiment Engagement Team, a Royal Navy command task, memory and observation tasks, an orienteering course, first aid tasks and ‘basha’ building.Following the field day was a formal dinner, attended by the Sixth Form NCOs, CCF staff and recent leavers, Dr Holland, Mr Denham, Mr Heyworth, Mr Dexter, Mrs Kilby and Mrs Powell, Inspecting Officer Air Marshall Evans and other invited guests including Lt. Col. Fleming, the Principal, and the Heads of the Senior Schools.Speeches were made by the Schools Principal, Will Phelan, and Lauren Watkiss, the Schools Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major. One of Stamford’s Year 12 NCO’s said: “I just want to say a personal thank you for the organisation of the field day and formal. I really enjoyed the whole day and evening and I’m very thankful to all the members of the CCF. It was an honour to be given the opportunity to say grace, and to toast the queen on the evening.”A parent of one of Stamford’s Year 10 cadets said: “My son loved the CCF day – I wanted to say thank you to you all. I am fully aware that days like this don’t just happen, and that a lot of time and effort was clearly taken to organise it. Please pass on my thanks to all who were involved!”
