During the Easter break, the Stamford Schools' Chapel Choir had the fantastic opportunity to sing Choral Evensong at Westminster Abbey. The 40-strong choir, comprising students from Years 6-13 and members of staff, had an inspiring day out in London. The day started with a rehearsal in the Abbey, followed by Evensong at 5:00 pm, which was attended by parents and a large congregation.
During Evensong, the choir performed the anthem O Thou the Central Orb, Psalm 136, the Magnificat, and Nunc Dimittis. They sang in the ancient choir stalls, revelling in the soaring acoustics of the historic building, accompanied by one of the Abbey's organ scholars.
The opportunity to sing Evensong was extended by Jonathan Bull (OS 09), who serves as the Assistant to Minor Canons at the Abbey. The Chapel Choir regularly leads worship at Stamford School chapel and has recently expanded their outreach, performing Evensong at local churches such as All Saints, Stamford, and the Church of St. Martin, Barholm.
Mrs. Sue Bond, who directs the choir and conducts their weekly rehearsals at Stamford Schools said: "It was a personal highlight to lead the choir in Westminster Abbey. I am confident that this excellent opportunity to experience choral music in its finest setting will be inspirational to them all."
