Stamford School named one of the country's top five rugby schools
After being named as one of the country’s top five rugby schools (according to ‘Fifteen Rugby’ – a national online rugby commentary) following the Stamford First XV’s victory over Rugby School the previous week, Stamford School was honoured by a visit from England rugby head coach, Eddie Jones. Both the U15 and U16 teams had the opportunity to display their skills as they took on Loughborough Grammar School in their Saturday afternoon matches. Parents and students were delighted to welcome Eddie Jones to the side-lines as they took the chance to get a selfie and autograph!300 parents and students were then invited to the Oswald Elliott Hall for a Q&A session with Eddie Jones. He spoke about the importance and value of sport and answered a variety of questions from the audience. On Saturday evening, Eddie joined the School community for a fundraising event in aid of the next Stamford School rugby tour to Australia and New Zealand.Mark Nasey, Director of Sport and Performance at the Stamford Endowed Schools, said: “On behalf of Stamford School and the local community we would like to thank Eddie for giving up so much time to support ‘grass roots’ rugby. It is remarkable that someone of his standing would happily give up his time and share his knowledge of rugby in schools with our community. His visit will live long in all our memories and will ensure even more support for the England team heading into the Six Nations and Rugby World Cup 2019!”
