Last week, Stamford School proudly hosted the second round of the prestigious English-Speaking Union Schools’ Debating Mace, a national competition now in its 67th year. The event welcomed five local schools, along with three esteemed judges from the ESU. Stamford’s debating team, consisting of Adam (Y13), Tessa (Y12), and Rebecca (Y11), competed on the challenging motion, “This House believes musical works should not be copyrightable”. Their impressive performance earned them a spot in the regional final, which will take place in March.
Stamford’s Debating Coach, Mrs Leetch, praised the team for their exceptional efforts: "The team rose to the occasion and delivered compelling arguments on a particularly challenging motion. The chair of the judges was very complimentary, with special mention given to Tessa, who was recognised as one of the best individual speakers of the evening."
A special thank you also goes to Noah (Y11), who chaired all three debates with remarkable confidence and poise, ensuring the smooth running of the event.
