Stamford School Hockey Represented at Futures Cup
The end of August saw two boys (Eddie Harper, Y12 & James Mayhew, Y11) represent Stamford School at the England Hockey Futures Cup held in St.Albans. With regions picking the best 18 players from each region, it was an incredible effort by both Stamfordians to be selected for this tournament. James Mayhew represented the Pennine Pumas U’15s team, whilst Eddie Harper represented the Saxon Tigers U’17s team. Both had great tournaments from playing perspective but were also privy to specialist workshops looking at sports psychology, yoga and flexibility as well as learning how to self-analyse their games. Both James and Eddie reached the final of their respective tournaments, with the latter scoring the first goal versus a battling Pennine Pumas U’17 team, with Eddie’s team eventually running out 5-1 winners in a gripping final. From this tournament, England Hockey subsequently pick their chosen National Age Group Squads, and with today’s announcement – Eddie Harper has been selected to represent England at U’18 level for the next cycle. Well done to both Eddie and James for representing their areas and school at the tournament – a fantastic and well deserved opportunity!Mr Bartell and Mr White added their congratulations to the boys saying: “The single system is a long and competitive pathway to reach the final two stages of it, is an absolutely incredible achievement from both boys and indicative to their efforts within the school team, their club team and representing their county and area teams. England Hockey are looking for the complete player and to reach these stages, suggests you are well on the way. Thoroughly deserved – well done!”
