Stamford Junior School National Cross Country Championship Runners
The Stamford Junior School U11 girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams successfully competed in the 27th National Prep Schools Cross Country Championships held at Malvern College in Worcestershire recently.The National Prep Schools’ Cross Country Championships is an annual fixture bringing together over 1,000 cross country competitors across two age groups U11 and U13 from all over the country. The event is regarded as the pinnacle of cross country running for youngsters in these age groups and sets the standard and tone for competing at senior levels.Despite challenging racing conditions – a gruelling course and in 45mph winds – the girls’ team finished in 19thposition while the boys’ team came in 26th place out of 46 and 47 national teams respectively.Standout performances were achieved by Ruby and Riley, who were the first runners home in each team. Ruby completed the course in 12.05 minutes placing her in the top 10% of the country and in 26th position and Riley, who came in 36th place in 11.17 minutes.Mr Greenway, cross country running coach, commented, ‘We are exceptionally proud of both our teams, who showed great determination and courage battling the inclement conditions. Their team spirit and sportsmanship were particularly heartening and I look forward to seeing many of them compete again next year. Congratulations to all involved!’
