Stamford High School students support International Women's Day Event
Five Year 13 Stamford High School students attended the IWD19 #BallanceforBetter event in the spectacular surrounding of Peterborough Cathedral along with Old Stamfordians, Alice Manby and Helen Preston. The event organised by the Chambers’ Business Women’s Sector presented an opportunity for professional women to listen to inspiring and motivational speakers, join in the debate and to network with other local business leaders. As keynote speaker, Christine Tacon CBE, shared experiences of her diverse and fascinating career, including time spent as Chartered Engineer with Mars, Anchor and Vodafone, and running the Co-operative Group's farming business for 11 years. Following this, our students took part in workshops and networking sessions delving into issues that are central to the career development of women and debated ways these can be influenced. The girls then had the chance to meet leaders from the local business world.Chris Hawkins, Head of Sixth Form of the Stamford High School, commented, ‘The event proved to be incredibly insightful and informative for our students. Not only was it a great occasion to listen to inspirational speakers, and to network with the local business community, but also to reflect on ambition and future aspirations. The students proved to be fantastic ambassadors for the School and I hope they will take some of the advice into their future careers.’
