Stamford High School compete at the British School Girls Ski Races

Three girls from Stamford High School were selected, and have therefore competed, in the Annual British School Girls Ski Races, having raced against over 150 girls from across Great Britain.This is the fourth year that the girls have entered the competition, held in Flaine, France. Stamford’s team was comprised of Katie Anderson and Georgia Richardson, both Year 13, alongside Jessica Anderson, Year 11.One day spent training alongside their Coach, Franc, who has supported Stamford in the competition each year, helped the students practice their technique, considering body position and the route they would take down the slope.This was followed with two days of racing, starting with the Giant Slalom. The Parallel Slalom was raced on the first afternoon, where teams compete against each other to see who will have each of their three students across the finish line first. Day two brought individual slalom races, and a presentation of results.Each member of our Stamford team has been skiing from a young age, having begun on family holidays abroad. They have trained for the competition as a co-curricular activity, alongside their academic studies. Katie and Georgia are currently completing their A Levels in mathematics, business and physical education, and art, textiles technology and drama respectively; Jessica is currently completing her GCSEs, and will begin her A Levels in mathematics, chemistry and economics in the Autumn.Speaking of their experiences in the competition, Katie Anderson, Year 13, said: “It’s been an amazing opportunity and experience to be able to compete in these races, and one that I will never forget. I have learnt a lot about skiing and improving my technique, and I have proved to myself just what I can do when I push myself out of my comfort zone."Georgia Richardson, Year 13, said: “I feel privileged to have been selected for the ski team, to represent my school. It’s helped me build up my confidence and technique as a skier in general.”Jessica Anderson, Year 11, said: “I’m honoured to have been selected as it’s been a great chance to experience a new challenge.
