SHS' PE department launch podcast

Stamford High School's PE department have started running 'PE POD' sessions, centered around the 'E' (for education) side of 'PE'. These podcasts aim to give students skills and knowledge in areas that are increasingly relevant to athletes today. All students at SHS are invited to a 6 week block of short tutorials on topics including nutrition, recovery, mental skills and mindset, strength and conditioning and yoga and mindfulness.Next weeks podcast, which focuses on physiotherapy and recovery, is going to be run by Team GB Triathlete, Katherine Amps, and Professional Tennis player, Johnny Binding, giving the students opportunity to learn from elite athletes. In the first podcast, aired last week, students shared ideas on healthy post-exercise snacks, and tried out a tutorial on smoothie making from Miss Nicholson.Miss Naismith, Head of PE at SHS, is particularly excited for the mindset and mental skills podcast. This topic is being piloted by Stamford and four other local schools (Uppingham, Dulwitch, Marlborough and Kings Wimbledon) and looks to explore topics such as goal setting, process vs. outcome, identity and fear vs. freedom.Miss Naismith has said that these podcasts "showcase the expertise of the department and also [give students the chance to get] into contact with elite athletes to share their experiences".Following its trial at Stamford High School, this initiative will be introduced to Stamford School and Stamford Junior School after the half term break. To read more news from Stamford High School, please click hereSports banner
