Showjumping Students Compete at Nationals

In their first season of competition, three teams (70cm, 80cm and 90am teams) from Stamford Endowed Schools competed in the National Schools' Equestrian Association (NSEA) National Showjumping finals at Bury Farm, Buckinghamshire on 21 April after successfully qualifying earlier in the season.  Schools from across the country attended the event some coming as far afield as Scotland and Cornwall. The level of competition was extremely high showcasing equestrian talent of the future. The 70cm team: Emily Traylen, Natasha Williams and Izzy Key all cleared their jumps in the first round. However, found the second more difficult with Emily and Tash dropping a fence (4 faults) and Izzy having two fences down for eight faults. They finished on 16 faults and placing them in 16th place nationally. The 80cm team: Amber Lily Frost, Charlotte Hindmarch and Izzy Key (who stepped up a level due to an un-related injured Zara Pollock). The team jumped well, but the accumulated 20 faults. Special mention to Amber who jumped clear in the first round. The 90 cm team: Edward Traylen, Max Kettlewell and Breanna Tye. They all jumped clear in the first round in the second, Max knocked one fence down and Breanna accumulated eight faults. Ed had an unscheduled dismount at fence four; both horse and rider were fine with Ed landing stylishly on his feet! Sadly, this unfortunately put them out of the placing. The Stamford Endowed Schools’ Equestrian team is certainly one to watch in the future.
