SES Students Compete in Sailing Championship
Stamford Students have competed in the National Youth Team Racing Championships at Oxford Farmoor. The Championships were organised by the Royal Yachting Association, in conjunction with the Eric Twiname Trust.Junior sailors came together to race against each other, representing their region. Unlike the inter-schools BSDRA competition, this championship sees youth teams from a variety of clubs, groups and organisations. For the last few years Rutland Sailing Club have combined forces with other local groups and entered Rutland teams in this competition, allowing them to combine the best from different teams in the region.Ewan M and Ellie H were selected for the ‘Rutland Green’ team, and Isabel L for the ‘Rutland Orange’ team.Ellie H, Year 12 explains: “A day of fog and no wind on the Saturday meant it all came down to the Sunday racing, where we had a nice breeze throughout the day.We competed against 24 different teams from around the country, and both 'Rutland Green' and 'Rutland Orange' made it into the semi-finals. The races were best of 3, with 'Rutland Green' racing 'RHS Blue' and 'Rutland Orange' racing 'RGS'. 'Rutland Orange' managed to come out of the day with a 4th after a tight semis and then petit final. 'Rutland Green' made it into the final winning 2-0 against 'RHS', going into the finals where we won 2-0 once again against 'RGS Gilford', to win the Championship overall. Overall, it was a great weekend of racing and we are all really pleased with our sailing!”For more news on sailing at Stamford please click
