Public Speaking success at Rotary 'Youth Speaks' Competition

The Senior Public Speaking Team from Stamford High School has reached the third round of the Rotary 'Youth Speaks - a Debate' Competition, after being placed first in the District Final. The District Final was held at Priory Ruskin Academy. The team, comprising Sophie F, Lottie B and Tabi F, debated the motion 'This houses proposes that it is the responsibility of the user, rather than the company, for user content and any harm caused on socia media in the UK".'Youth Speaks - a Debate' is a competition organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland. It's a four-stage competition which is designed to support and encourage the development of effective communication skills.Teams of three prepare and deliver short debates on topics of their choice in front of an audience. The District Round welcomed four teams to debate, with only the winning team (Stamford High School) getting through to the final, which will be held in April.Team Coach, Mrs V Wilson, said: "I am immensely proud of the team and their achievements. We actually got through to the Regional Final in 2020 also, but that was cancelled because of Covid, so we are delighted to be given the chance again."Lottie, Year 12, said: "Taking part in the Rotary Youth Speaks competition was such a wonderful opportunity for us to explore and debate the causes of social media’s harm to the user. It was a topic I am very passionate about and being given the experience of speaking in public at a different venue in front of an audience was truly exciting."For more news from Stamford High School, please click here.Banner 2021 - High School
