Old Stamfordians: Legal group meets again for quiz night in London
Several members of the Stamfordian Legal Group met up on Monday 2 October for a quiz night and sausage-and-mash supper held in the Old Hall of Lincoln's Inn. This beautiful medieval building is the setting of the first page of Dickens' 'Bleak House', where the Lord Chancellor presides over the interminable chancery case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce. Our evening proved to be a rather more cheery occasion and, while the Lord Chancellor was already spoken for, non-OS ringer, Her Honour Judge Khatun Sapnara joined the Stamfordian team to sprinkle a little judicial stardust over proceedings. Flowing ales and fine wines didn't prevent the Stamford team from reaching a podium position at the end of the first half but Lincoln's Inn's finest minds managed to pull ahead after the dinner break and we failed to win the fiercely contested cash prize. We did, however, win a bottle of champagne as the prize for the best team name ('We thought this was speed-dating') and since, as everybody knows, choosing a name is easily the hardest question in any quiz, we were pretty satisfied with that. The Stamfordian Legal Group will be meeting again in the new year.
