House Singing Competition 2019

The Schools-wide House Singing competition began with a bang on Thursday 17^th October, where the Stamford Junior School’s four Houses performed a wide variety of musical ensembles.To start the day, each House, at Key Stage Two level, took turns to sing ‘Food, Glorious Food’. Following a short break, the pupils changed into their costumes for their second song. Aragon House entertained the audience, singing ‘We like to Party’ by The Vengaboys. Rockingham followed their performance with their own version of Status Quo’s ‘Rocking all over the World’, appropriately renamed to ‘Rockingham all over the World’. The third act of the afternoon was performed by Burghley, singing ‘Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride’ from the Disney film Lilo and Stitch. To round off a fantastic musical morning, Grimsthorpe House concluded the event by singing Rick Astley’s ‘Never Going to Give You Up’.All of the children were congratulated following a wonderful morning of entertainment, with first place being awarded to Burghley, equal second to Aragon and Rockingham and close third to Grimsthorpe.The following day, Friday 18^th October, Houses from both Stamford School and Stamford High School competed for their respective House Singing Trophies.At Stamford High School, each House presented a senior choir and whole House ensemble. Beginning the afternoon, Beale’s seniors sung ‘Put Your Records On’, by Corinne Bailey Rae, followed with a whole House performance of ‘Shine’ by Take That. An enjoyable Senior House rendition of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ was followed up with the entirety of Eliot House enjoyably singing ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, by Queen. Anderson House presented a duo of more contemporary songs; beginning with their Senior House interpretation of ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons, followed up by ‘Dance with me Tonight’, by Olly Murs. To close the competition, Cavell House performed ‘Somewhere only we know’ by Keane, concluding with a complete House representation of The Greatest Showman’s ‘A Million Dreams’.Cavell’s ‘Million dreams’ did in fact come true upon reveal of the competition's results, with Cavell scoring overall first place, closely beating joint second place Houses; Eliot and Anderson, followed by third place House, Beale.At Stamford School, Friday morning began with an instrumental competition; whereby students across their respective upper year groups entered musical pieces spanning seven different instrument classes. Radcliffe House benefitted from four wins, by; Oliver M, Y10, voice category, Thomas M, Y12, Strings category (joint win), George C, Y12, piano category and William L, Y12, within the organ category. Ancaster scored two wins; Billy W, Y10, within the strings category and Jamie M, Y11, within the rock and pop guitar and drum kit category. Finally, Exeter House also achieved two wins, with Asa M, Y11, jointly winning the strings category, and Ellis W of Y10 winning the brass category.Brazenose went on to win the main singing competition, whereby each House performed three pieces including an ensemble, part singing and unison.
