Students from Stamford High School have competed in the RFA National School Girls Fives Tournament, scoring Bronze and Silver positions across several age categories.17 students from Years 7 to 11 entered from Stamford, competing in the annual tournatment against girls from schools across London, Durham, the Midlands and Edinburgh, held this year at Alleyn's School, South London.Silver position was achieved by Stamford's Under 14 doubles pair, Amelia D and Harriet D.Bronze was achieved in the Under 13 singles (Bea G), Under 13 Doubles (Thomasina B and Ella T), Under 14 Doubles (Jasmine W and Ella G) and in the Under 16 Doubles (Jasmine W, with Cammile B, a student from Durham).Highlights of the tournament came from across the age categories:At the Under 13 levels, there were many games with Stamford's youngest players playing well all day. In the Singles, players entered a knock-out where three Stamford players (Theophilia S, Bea G and Thomasina B) reaching the Quarter finals. Bea went on to reach the Bronze medal final, competing against her teammate Thomasina.In the doubles, similarly to the boys' Under 13s the day previous (read more here) the Stamford 1st pair (Bea G and Matilda S) and Stamford 3rd pair (Thomasina B and Ella T) both reached but lost their semi-finals to play each other for the Bronze medal.At the Under 14 level Stamford also did well in the doubles – Amelia D and Harriet D losing in the final against a pair from Alleyn’s to win silver medals. Jasmine W and Ella Gwent on to win the bronze.In the U16 Doubles, Theodora S and Neve M reached the plate final where they met Jasmine, also from Stamford, who had stepped in at the last minute to help out Durham and so was playing up an age group partnering Camille from Durham. Jasmine’s pair won to gain a bronze medal.Mr A Smith, Head of Classics andFives Coach, said: "It was fantastic to see the girls enjoying competitive sport again. They got used to the courts quickly and played with great skill and enthusiasm."The day was a great success and I am particularly proud of the way the girls supported each other during the day and of the Year 7 pupils who are a year young for the U13 age group.
