Firefighters train at Stamford

The crew from Stamford Fire Station have trained at the Stamford Schools, using the buildings for training exercises with ladders and hoses.Two fire engines and 11 firefighters were involved in the drills, practising at the Sports Centre building and facilities off Conduit Road.Crew Manager, David Vines, works as a Maintenance Officer at the Schools and said how important it is for their new recruits to be able to have hands-on experience, and for established members of the team to refresh their knowledge."We’re very grateful to Barry Hancock, the Schools' Facilities Manager, for letting us use the site for this sort of training. We are always on the lookout for places that we can come to for exercises and so encourage anyone with premises that might provide different challenges for us to get in touch.”Suzanne Moon, News Editor for the Rutland and Stamford Mercury, attended the training exercise. The family-oriented event will raise money for The Firefighters Charity, and British Heart Foundation.
