Fencing force is strong at Stamford

Last Saturday saw a strong contingent of fencers from all three of the Stamford Endowed Schools competing at the Four County Youth Epee Championships held at Oundle School. The competition was open to individual fencers in age categories from Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland. The event ran as a combined event, with county titles also being given to highest ranked fencers from each county.For many new to the sport, this championship represented the first competition, which resulted in some fantastic placings:Under 10 Boys 3rd Alastair Chew (Lincolnshire County Champion)Under 12 Boys3rd Rory Dresner 5th Reuben Baker 8th Ethan Mitchell-Clarke 9th Otis Herdale 10th Harry AinsworthUnder 12 Girls3rd Sophia Harper (Lincolnshire County Champion)Under 14 Boys3rd Milo Herdale (Lincolnshire County Champion)Under 14 Girls3rd Hazel Bell (Rutland County Champion)Under 16 Girls2nd Alexandra Simon (Lincolnshire County Champion)The following day, Ethan Mitchell-Clarke and Sophia Harper travelled to Nottingham to take part in the Under 12 events at the East Midlands British Youth Championship Qualifier. Both fenced extremely well with Ethan coming 8th in the boys and Sophia 5th in the girl’s event.
