Exciting expeditions for Duke of Edinburgh

A total of 92 students across Stamford High School and Stamford School have participated in Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh expeditions over half term, finding creative ways to complete their expeditions within the local Covid-19 regulations. Each student taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme this half term had their expedition cancelled last Easter due to Covid-19.The majority have taken walking expeditions, with eleven students choosing canoeing as their method of transport. Alongside their expeditions, students have also taken part in bushcraft activities learning to light fires and make whistles, axe and knife throwing tutorials, outdoor cooking, night navigation in Fineshade Woods and volunteering at a nearby nature reserve.DofEAutumnTerm DofEAutumnTerm DofEAutumnTermParticular mentions go to the groups of students who have spent time with the Langdyke Countryside Trust at the Etton-Maxey Nature Reserve, supporting a local wildlife project by turning gravel quarries to nature. The students were praised for their hard work clearing New Zealand pygmyweed (Crassula helmsii) from the ground and creating habitat for lapwings and snipes.DofEAutumnTermDofEAutumnTermDofEAutumnTermWe are so pleased that each student has still been able to complete their expedition, made possible by the 24 staff and parents who have volunteered during the half term holiday to ensure these adapted expeditions could still take place - thank you all.DofEAutumn DofEAutumn
