Exceptional evening of music with the Band of the Royal Air Force College

Pupils from the Stamford Endowed Schools have joined forces with the Band of the Royal Air Force College to produce an exceptional evening of music.Around forty pupils and forty RAF musicians worked together in an afternoon workshop, before performing together during the evening for an audience of more than 350 friends, parents, staff and members of the public at the Stamford Corn Exchange. The performance included tunes such as The Battle of Britain March, The Great Escape and a Queen Medley.Concert organiser, Lt Col (Retd) George Woolf, said: 'For the students, this is an outstanding opportunity to play alongside a full professional band. The RAF College Band, based at RAF Cranwell, is one of the best-loved and accomplished military bands in the UK, and this has been an inspiring experience for all our student musicians.'Jennifer Dancy, a Year 13 pupil at the Stamford Endowed Schools, said: 'It’s been a really helpful experience, and a really good insight into the opportunities available for professional musicians after school or university. It’s really helpful to play alongside musicians at this level – it has really stretched my ability. It’s a great experience.'The Stamford Endowed Schools have a strong affinity with the RAF, and a large number of current pupils come from RAF families in Lincolnshire and further afield. The Band plays with the permission of the Air Force Board of the Defence Council.
