After our Stamford Lecture series proceeded online during the pandemic, we welcomed Eddie the Eagle to Stamford Schools in early May to kick start the new era of in-person lectures!
Michael 'Eddie the Eagle' Edwards is an English ski jumper and Olympian who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping, due to him having an epiphany that this would be the only way he would stand out and become qualified. Years of devotion and extreme faith within his training led him to hold the British ski jumping record from 1988 to 2001.
Eddie visited us to chat, answer questions and give a lecture upon topics of perseverance, inspiring students, parents and staff alike. As well as attaining a name for himself and many achievements, he reminded us that it's never an easy journey in order to get to the top, and being able to withstand obstacles, judgement and potential embarrassment when failing is an essential trait to have when desiring to succeed. The eccentric and emotional tales he told opened many eyes, raised many laughs and, all in all, widened everybody's smiles.
The next Stamford Lecture will take place on Tuesday 10 October with Henry Dimbleby. Click here for more details.
