Duke of Edinburgh Awards Night Goes Virtual

Students at the Stamford Schools have been presented with their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards in a virtual awards ceremony.74 Year 11 students were presented with their Bronze awards and 46 Year 12 students were presented with their silver awards. The awards ceremony was hosted by Director of Outdoor Education, Mr E Smith, and celebrated the fantastic achievements of all the students.The awards ceremony featured words from the Head at Stamford High School, Mrs V Buckman, the Headmaster at Stamford School, Mr N Gallop and Principal, Mr W Phelan. They all emphasised the magnitude of the achievement and praised the students hard work, commitment and dedication.Mr Phelan praised all those involved: "It gives me great pleasure to congratulate each and everyone of you on the fabulous job you have done in achieving your DofE awards. Now that’s no mean feat at the best of times, but given a year which has seen disruption and difficulty time after time, it is a really significant feat so very well done”The awards ceremony also featured some words from a few guest speakers. Nikki Bartlett, world class triathlete, and hosts of the heart breakfast show, Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, sent a video recording of them congratulating the students on all their hard work.The students also received a message from gold medal winner and current World Champion, Claire Cashmore MBE. Claire is a Paralympic triathlete for Team GB and won a gold and silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Claire, in her video message said:"Congratulations to all of you for achieving your DofE award, especially in this really challenging year where you have had to achieve all of this at home. This makes it even more special and I hope you realise that all your hard work, commitment and energy has paid off".The awards evening was rounded off with some photos of the students experiences before the names of the boys and girls receiving their certificates was read out my Mr Smith.Well done to all the students who received their awards and all the staff who worked hard to enable the
