Chemistry students expand their learning at University of Leicester
Two groups of Chemistry students from Year 12 at Stamford High School have visited the Chemistry Department at the University of Leicester to support their learning of organic chemistry.Two members of the University faculty gave the students a tour around the department to review how the techniques described in their course were achieved using advanced equipment. This was followed with two practical sessions, using solvents to separate mixtures through thin-layer chromatography, and then through creating their own infrared spectra to identify various substances such as caffeine.Thanks go to the catering staff for preparing the packed lunches, to the staff at the University of Leicester, and to Dr Crookell, Miss Riley, Mrs Peterson and Dr Webster for organising the event.
