Browne House get a taste of the wild

Boarding students from Browne House have taken a walk on the wild side, enjoying an evening tasting different types of insects and offal.Forty students braved the exotic menu which included sampling crickets, a shot of five worms, scorpions and even a 5cm water beetle. Many students also tried ox stomach cooked in milk, and liver. The insects had been purchased from a specialist French company, with the water beetle having been imported all the way from Thailand. The activity was kept a surprise from the boys, and revealed at their house meeting.Browne House eat bugsEach Thursday night, Matron Kedzlie and Mr Stephenson organise activities for Browne House, doing something different to raise spirits before Friday. In previous weeks, students have had fully loaded nachos, ice cream and home made brownies, pulled pork carnitas, hot dogs and a build your own burger night. As a new experience for most, it was a great opportunity for the students to push their comfort zones, supported by lots of cheering and chanting from their peers!Browne House eat bugsThe students plucked up their courage more than the staff. On the night, Mr Headley was heard claiming, “I really wish I could eat some bugs but I don’t want to take the chance away from the boys", however, the boys have told us that they were not entirely convinced this was his reasoning.Browne House eat bugsMr L Ware, House parent of Browne, said: “It is great to see the boys having something different to look forward to each Thursday to raise House spirits. Particularly impressive was the full participation and willingness of the boys to try something different. A true part of the boarding experience is about being willing to try new things.”For more Boarding news from Stamford, please click here.boarding banner
