Author, Katherine Hetzel, visits Stamford High School

Children’s book author and novelist, Katherine Hetzel, recently visited Stamford High School to talk to their Year 7 and 8 Book Club and run a workshop for the whole of Year 7.Katherine, who writes adventure and fantasy novels for teenagers, encouraged creativity in the students, helping them to create their own main characters. Following the workshop, many students have then chosen to expand their characters, writing short stories around them.Learning and Resource Centre Manager at SHS, Miss Kate Stewart, said: “Katherine is a local author from Loughborough, who writes fantastic adventure stories for children and teenagers. Her books have proved to be very popular with our students – and so it was really great to have Katherine visit SHS. Year 7 were so excited to meet a ‘real-life’ author and were full of questions and ideas for stories!”Marybeth B, Year 7, said: “I really liked how Katherine talked about creative writing, and then let us write too. I also enjoyed listening to her talk about her life and how she had become an author.”katherine hetzel runs a workshop for year 7Click here to read Katherine’s blog about her experience visiting the Schools.
